If you’ve recently got engaged, you may be thinking that you’ve got ages to plan your wedding. While there’s no need to panic or get stressed out, it is best to sort some wedding plans as early as possible. If you’re prepping for a wedding in 2017, here is an essential checklist to help you achieve your dream day.
1. Venue
Searching for wedding venues is one of the most exciting elements of planning a wedding. If you’re getting married during peak times, such as the summer holidays, it’s always best to look around as soon as you can. You will find that the most popular wedding venues get booked up months, even years, in advance. Some people know where they want to get married before they get engaged. If you have no idea, do some research online and create a list of venues you’d like to visit. Go to wedding fayres and arrange some viewings. Take some notes, ask plenty of questions and take some photos. Once you’ve been through your initial selection, make a shortlist and go back for second viewings. When you have a date, send out a save the date card, so people have plenty of notice.
2. The photographer
For many people, photographs are one of the most important considerations during the planning process. Wedding photographers get booked up early, especially during busy times of the year. Choose a package, price and style, which suits your dream wedding day.
3. The dress
It can take a while to find the perfect dress. Once you’ve ordered a dress, it’s also wise to factor in time to make alterations and organise a series of fittings. Start arranging some appointments at bridal boutiques and try a selection of dresses. Don’t feel pressured into ordering if you’re not completely happy. It’s rare for any bride to fall in love with the first dress they try. Take your time and go with the dress that makes you feel confident and excited about your big day.
4. The entertainment
If you’re desperate for a specific band or magician and you have set your date, go ahead and book. The earlier you make an enquiry, the higher the chances of securing your first choice of entertainment. If you don’t have anyone in mind yet, look online for demos and reviews.
5. The catering
Once you have a rough idea of numbers and you’ve booked your venue and decided on a date, look into catering options. Some venues provide their own catering, while others have a list of preferred companies. If you’re getting married outdoors, or you’re having a marquee, you will usually have more choice. Arrange some tasting sessions and go through some sample menus. Most caterers will ask for an idea of numbers initially, and then you will confirm the final figure nearer the date.
