Kwai’s Dish
Real Turkey Wrap with Pineapple Slaw
Yiki’s Dish
Linguine with chicken breast & garlic tomatoes.
Exterior
Off a quiet road with a big sign on the roadside. Free car park.
Interior
Large windows are open to the view of… the car park. The inside is painted in summer colours of lime green and yellow with a bar area for a quick or lazy drink.
Service
Our waitress was a little slow to take our order but food came out quickly. The waitress could not recommend any dishes.
Toilets
Not well maintained. Could be a lot cleaner.
Review
Jackie Rey’s Ohana Grill was not the easiest place to find as we drove down Kuakini Hwy but then a large board suddenly appeared with Jackie Rey’s on it and we had arrived. The place looked welcoming and the waitress seemed good to start off with. Her level of service dipped quickly however as she spent most of her time chatting to other staff at the bar or out of sight altogether.
I chose a very strange sounding dish, the ‘Real Turkey Wrap with Pineapple Slaw’ which did have real pieces of turkey in it. I’ve not often eaten fake turkey so i found this point amusing. The real turkey was overcooked and dry, the wrap was cold and together with the slaw felt more like a deli sandwich rather than a sit down lunch. My wife’s linguine was overcooked and soggy. The chicken was overcooked and the taste of the garlic tomatoes drowned out any other interest in the flavour stakes.
The experience at Jackie Rey’s Ohana Grill was a poor one and did not reflect Hawaiian dining at it’s best but rather near the worst. It was unfortunate that we bothered to go there.
